He is rooted in a classical sculpture tradition but still manages, in a very personal way, to renew this form of expression. He makes use of traditional sculpture materials such as stone and bronze, but also less conventional materials such as plastic, metal, wood, ceramics, glass and synthetic fabrics. Tony Cragg studied at Gloucestershire College of Art, Cheltenham from 1969 to 1970. He went on to study at Wimbledon School of Art, London from 1970 to 1973 and subsequently at the Royal College of Art, London from 1973 to 1977.

Cragg, who was born in England in 1949 and has lived in Wuppertal, Germany, since 1977, has been the most exhibited sculptor of his generation. He recently had two shows in Paris. The Centre Georges Pompidou, in its Galerie Sud, mounted a survey of sculptures covering 1970-95, and Galerie Karsten Greve used the occasion to present recent drawings.

He went on to study at Wimbledon School of Art, London from 1970 to 1973 and subsequently at the Royal College of Art, London from 1973 to 1977. In 1977 he moved to Wuppertal in Germany, and has taught at the Kunstakademie, Düsseldorf since 1978. Tony Cragg is one of the world’s foremost sculptors.
